TITLE: School Nurse

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. CNA license required.
2. LPN license preferred.

3. Nursing experience required. 

REPORTS TO: School Nurse and Superintendent

JOB GOALS: Promotes the fullest possible educational opportunity for each student in the district by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assumes responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and/or dental care.
2. Organizes and conducts screening programs for early identification of health problems.
3. Assists if requested, in the district’s hearing screening program.
4. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
5. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students including records of all immunizations.
6. Assumes responsibility for the first aid care of a student or staff member who has suffered injury or illness.
7. Provides health education on an individual basis.
8. Visits home of students when necessary or when referred by principals.
9. Consults and serves as resource person in planning health curriculum or devising health units with teachers, curriculum personnel, and administrators.
10. Advises on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students.
11. Advises teachers on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health problems.
12. Interprets laws relating to school health.
13. Assists school personnel in establishing healthful conditions in schools.
14. Participates in the work of the School Health Council.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Hourly contract. Salary as established by the Board.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
